c. 1900 Photo of Carrie L. Rideout, b. Garland Maine in 1872

Note: Be sure to scroll down to the comments section for information on Carrie left by a reader in June 2013.

Photograph of a young woman identified on the reverse as Carrie L. Rideout.  She was born at Garland, Maine, on 9 November 1872, the daughter of Martin L. and Betsey A. (Coffin) Rideout.

The photo was taken by a Bangor, Maine photographer.  (Garland is a few towns away to the west).  Carrie looks to be in her 20s or 30s, so I'm guessing the photo was taken in the 1890s or early 1900s.

Interestingly, on the 1930s Census of Garland, Carrie's occupation is listed as Minister, Congregational.  From the reader's comment, we now know that she graduated from Bangor Theological Seminary, at Bangor, Maine, in 1914.

If you have further information on Carrie, please leave a comment or contact me directly.  Thanks!

  1. Very awesome to see this - I've been doing some work with the historical records from Bangor Theological Seminary, and Carry was a graduate from there (class of 1914). She was ordained in 1914, served as minister for a few churches. She died in Old Town Maine, in 1951.
I've been finding a lot of people who seem really intriguing and I want to learn more about, but it's very neat to actually get to put a picture to one of the names!
