CDV Cataline Mead Parent, by Niles, Michigan photographer

Carte de Visite of Cataline Mead Parent, taken by E. B. Ives, Photographer, Niles, Michigan.

It's possible that this lady was the wife of James L. Parent, who was born about 1815 in New York, died about in Michigan.  If so, she was born about 1815 in New York.

The 1840 census shows a James Parent living in Galway, Saratoga County, New York.

In the 1850 Census, he's living in Berrien, Michigan, with his wife, whose name is spelled differently in every Census I checked, none of which is exactly the same as what is shown on the reverse of the CDV.  It's possible that the ID on the CDV is incorrect, but I would tend to give it more weight.

James and Cataline had at least two children, George and James, born in the 1840s.

I wonder if Mead were Cataline's maiden name or a middle name.  The only clues to her parents are that she indicated on the 1880 Census that her father was born in New Jersey and her mother in New York.  If you have any insights into the families of Cataline and James, please contact me.

  1. James L. Parent was the son of James Parent and Margaret Angle and was born in Charlton, Saratoga, NY about 1813. He married Cataline Mead on November 28, 1839 in Watertown, Jefferson, NY. They lived in Galway, Saratoga, NY in 1840 near James' family but went to Michigan in 1842. They had two sons, James E. Parent (b. 1840 in NY - d. 1865 in Niles, MI) and George K. Parent (b. 1843 in MI - d. 1872). They died as young men and left no children.
The Thursday, 26 Apr 1894 "Niles Republican" printed: "Mrs. James L. Parent died at her
home on Broadway last Saturday morning, aged 81 years. She had been sick since last Christmas
with a complication of diseases, which terminated in consumption. Mr. and Mrs. Parent were
married in Watertown, New York, Nov. 28, 1839. In the fall of 1842 they came to Michigan and
settled in St. Joseph county, where they remained one year. They then moved to Berrien Springs,
afterwards coming to Niles, where they had lived ever since. The deceased leaves no immediate
relatives except her husband. She was an estimable lady, a true Christian, and her death was
    peaceful.
James L. Parent died on 05 Apr 1895 in Niles, Berrien Co., MI. They are both buried in Silver Brook Cemetery in Niles along with both of their sons.
