House of Aunt Emma Webster

Sadly, I have no idea who Emma Webster was or where she lived, though the photograph was purchased in Maine, which may be a clue or may be an inadvertent red herring.   I found two possibilities in Maine in the 1880 Census, one on North Haven Island and the other in Lisbon, which is next door to the town of Webster, now part of Sabattus, Maine.

And many more Emma Websters in New England and beyond.

Update: A reader has commented on two more possibilities, one in Mars Hill, Maine, which is in Aroostook County, and another in Embden, Maine, which is in Somerset County.  The Emma Webster in Mars Hill was born there 7 July 1871, the daughter of James Harry Webster and his wife Mary Ann.  The Emma Webster in Embden was born in September 1864 and was the wife of Charles Webster.   Since I have a gut feeling that our Emma was married, I'm leaning away from the Mars Hill Emma, but the Embden Emma is intriguing.  What do you think?

If you know of an Emma Webster from family research and recognize this house from family photos, please leave a comment in the comments box or contact me directly.  If you do happen to recognize her, please note that she is singled out in the photograph by two pen marks as the second person from the left.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Well there are a lot of Emma Webster's in Maine. Found a great number on pilot.familysearch. Would help you to know if it was married or birth last name. Here is a married Emma Webster in 1900

This one is a birth of an Emma Webster in 1871

I know nigh unto no help at all, but it is fun chasing. ; )

  2. Thanks so much for your input - as you can see, I added an update to the body of the post. Yes, it's definitely fun!
