This notice appeared in the 21 November 1814 issue of the Independent Chronicle, published in Massachusetts by Adams and Rhoades.

Researching online, I found a William Farris, born about 1749, who died 23 October 1814 at Natick, Massachusetts.  This William Farris had a son also named William Farris, born 1 June 1790 at Natick.  With any luck, these are the correct William Farris combination.

The William Farris born about 1749 was the son of, I believe, of William Farris, an Englishman or Irishman, who had been a captain-lieutenant in Shirley's regiment in 1745 and had seen some service after that time.  After his service, he lived for a time at Cambridge and then bought a farm at "The Leg".  His neighbors viewed him with suspicion during the Revolution but apparently didn't bother him, even though he had some unkind words for the rebels.  He was one of two men in town who owned a slave.  I don't know the name of his wife, son William's mother.

That son William married Elizabeth "Betsey" Cummings on 25 May 1774 at Dunstable, Massachusetts.  She was born 28 June 1752 at Dunstable, Massachusetts, the daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Spaulding) Cummings.  Her paternal grandparents were John and Elizabeth (Adams) Cummings.  Her maternal grandparents were Andrew and Abigail (Warren) Spaulding.

Their son William, who became the Executor of his father's estate, was born 1 June 1790 at Natick, Massachusetts.  On 1 June 1814 William married Lucy Stone, who was born 14 April 1792 at Natick, the daughter of Nathan and Eunice (Stone) Stone.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph and Lydia (Parkhurst) Stone.  Her maternal grandparents were Deacon Daniel and Mary (Frost) Stone.

William and Lucy Farris had a daughter Mary Elizabeth Farris, born 29 May 1817 in Natick.  She married William Tarbell Shattuck and lived in Natick.
