Memorial card printed on the occasion of the death of young Mertie Emma Chase on 25 December 1895 of consumption.
Her parents would have grieved on any day, but Christmas must have been particularly hard. Hopefully the family and Emma herself were able to make the most of her last hours.
Mertie Emma Chase, died December 25th, 1895. Aged 16 years, 3 months, 18 days
From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections welcome]
Mertie Emma Chase was born 7 September 1879 at Atkinson, Maine, daughter of Albert H. and May M. (Farnham) Chase, who were born at Sebec, Maine, and Atkinson, Maine, respectively.
Mertie died at Milo, Maine. Her mother died several years later. Her father lived until 1936.
Atkinson and Milo are both located in Piscataquis County, Maine, home to beautiful mountains and lakes, including Mount Katahdin and Moosehead Lake, as well as the "100-Mile Wilderness" section of the Appalachian Trail.

This card was found with a similar one for Esther J. (Lancaster) Chase, but I didn't find a close relationship between Esther's husband Lorenzo Chase and Emma's father Albert H. Chase.
Atkinson, Maine [Milo is to the northeast.]
