1909 Invitation to Wedding of Helen Elizabeth Ingalls and Leroy Frank Shaw of Milo, Maine

1909 invitation to the wedding of Helen Elizabeth Ingalls and Leroy Frank Shaw at Milo, Maine.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moore Ingalls announce the marriage of their daughter Helen Elizabeth to Mr. Leroy Frank Shaw on Wednesday, September the first, nineteen hundred and nine.
Milo, Maine

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections welcome]

Helen Elizabeth Ingalls was born 13 July 1891 at Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, daughter of Robert Moore Ingalls and Mary E. Ayer, who were born at Fairfield, Maine, and Dover, Maine, respectively.

Leroy Frank Shaw was born about 1886 in Maine, son of Charles E.  and Carolyn E. (Avery) Shaw, who were born at Winterport, Maine, and Bucksport, Maine, respectively.    Leroy, according to his marriage record, was working as a bank manager.

I found a Leroy Frank Shaw living at Boston, Massachusetts, who gave a birthdate of 3 December 1885 on his World War I draft registration card, but he didn't note his place of birth, so I can't be sure it's the same person.

A website that lists the deceased graduates of Milo High School mentions that a Leroy Frank Shaw died in 1929.

I'm not sure whether Leroy Frank Shaw and Helen Elizabeth (Ingalls) Shaw were divorced or just happened to be living apart at the time the 1920 Census of Milo, Maine, was enumerated, when Helen and her son were living with her parents, and she was listed as married.  She was listed as divorced on the 1930 Census of Milo.

Their son went on to graduate from the engineering department of the University of Maine.

  3. Hi, Pam. We chatted back in March about the original wedding invitation for Helen Elizabeth Ingalls. You were going to look for the original. I was interested in passing it along to her grandson, Richard Shaw. I'll be seeing him at the end of the month. Sincerely, Nancy Kenoyer Neely nancykneely at aol dot com
