1870s Autograph Album of Minnie L. (Carr) Davison Gale of New Hampshire

1870s album that belonged to Minnie L. (Carr) Davison Gale of Grafton County, New Hampshire.

The album is approximately 5" x 3" and contains about 40 pages signed by Minnie's relatives and friends.  An alphabetized list of signers appears at the end of this post.

The autographs in the album were collected before Minnie's marriage to Charles Albion Gale, so I believe it was Minnie's daughter Winnie M. Gale who wrote her mother's name on the first end paper, as shown above, and included the puzzling bit about the waste basket.

Winnie signed a couple pages inside, in 1897 and 1898, shown below, so I'm guessing she came across the album in 1897.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections welcome]

Minnie L. Carr was born 20 January 1860 at Haverhill, New Hampshire, the daughter of Hiram Samuel Carr and Maria (Cady) Carr.

One signer indicated she was Minnie's sister, but I don't know if she was an actual sister, a sister-in-law and a close friend.  She was Abbie Wallace.

Another signer, Will, indicated he was Minnie's cousin.

On 9 June 1879 at Haverhill, New Hampshire, Minnie married Edward Davison, son of Andrew and Charlotte Mariah (Sager) Davison.   He was born 3 September 1855 at Brome, Quebec.

Two people named Davison signed pages in Minnie's album.  One of them was Edward's twin Edgar Davison of Woodsville, New Hampshire.

The other was G. A. Davison, who signed a page in 1876.  This may have been George A. Davison, older brother of Edward and Edgar.

The 1880 Census found Minnie and Edward living in the household of Minnie's parents.  Minnie's father and her husband worked for the railroad.  Edward and Minnie had a son, Edward Davison, born 10 March 1881 at Woodsville, New Hampshire.

Tragically, Edward did not live to see his son's birth, as he had died on 2 November 1880 at Woodsville.  Even more sadly, son Edward died in his youth, on 1 May 1893 at Woodsville, New Hampshire.

On 23 November 1882, at Haverhill, New Hampshire, Minnie L. (Carr) Davison married Charles Albion Gale, son of Charles Albert Gale and Laura G. (Wetherbee) Gale.

In addition to Winnie, who was born 26 April 1885, Charles and Minnie had a son Elmer, born 5 September 1888, and a daughter Nellie Grace Gale, who died in infancy in 1890.   They operated a farm at Haverhill, New Hampshire.
