Small photograph, approximately 4-1/2" x 3-1/2", of a scene identified on reverse as Nantucket, Massachusetts, taken from the Steamer Gay Head.
I'm guessing this photograph was taken around 1900 as it was found with several other photographs, including one dated 1 August 1904 of the boat of the USS McCulloch preparing to seize a sealing schooner. There is another photograph of the USS McCulloch at Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands, and that may have been near where the seizure took place. Those two photographs may be seen here.
Also found in the collection was the photograph below of an unidentified family out for a sail, perhaps a family from Nantucket or vicinity. The skipper is in uniform. Perhaps someone familiar with Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard or Cape Cod history will recognize the family and/or skipper. This photograph is approximately 3-1/2" x 3-1/4".
In addition, an interesting photograph of a scene in the Simmenthal region of Switzerland that may or may not have a relationship to the other photographs.
Translation: Brother Jacob and father in another circle of Tourists in the mountains at picking of Edelweiß in Simmenthal.
Finally, a photograph of two adults and two children, unidentified as to people and place.
Please leave a comment or contact me directly if you recognize any
of the people in these photographs. Thanks!
