Cabinet Photograph of Nora Chaplin by Bangor, Maine, studio

Cabinet photograph of a young woman identified on reverse as Nora Chaplin.  The photograph was taken by the Lansil studio of 4 Main Street, Bangor, Maine.

Incidentally, the photograph was found with a cabinet photograph of Fannie Chaplin, taken by the Kimball studio of Concord, New Hampshire.  I don't know if the two women were related or if the photographs were found together because the previous owner had alphabetized her collection.

Perhaps a reader will have information on Fannie Chaplin.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections welcome]

The Nora Chaplin pictured in the photograph at the beginning of this post was born or christened Norah Chaplin, I think, on 11 September 1874 at Bangor, Maine, daughter of Francis Augustus Chaplin and wife Catherine Katie (Crowley) Chaplin.  Nora's parents were born at Red Bank, New Brunswick, and Ireland, respectively.

Nora's date of birth above came from the Maine Births and Christenings record; her given name on that document, at least according to the index, was Norah.  The 1900 Census, however, gives her month of birth as August.  But perhaps whoever gave the information to the enumerator was in error.  Or the Maine Births and Christenings record, even though it stated birth, reflected the christening date, rather than the birth date.

If you have corrections to the information above and/or if you have information on the later life of Nora (Norah) Chaplin, or information on Fannie Chaplin, please leave a comment or contact me directly.  Thanks!
