1890s Autograph Album of Hattie C. Bergman of Oneida County, New York

1890s autograph album of Hattie C. Bergman of Vienna, New York.

The album is approximately 6-1/2" x 4" and includes 53 signed pages, plus several pages with floral decorations interspersed throughout.  An alphabetical list of the signers appears at the end of this post.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections welcome!]

Hattie C. Bergman was born 14 August 1882 at Ava, New York, the daughter of Charles H. and Florilla or Flora M. (Wyman) Bergman.  Charles died in 1884, after a period of failing health.

I don't have information on Charles' birth date and place or his parents.

Flora M. (Wyman) Bergman was the daughter of Simeon T. and Harriet (Brown) Wyman.  Both Flora and her father Simeon signed pages in Hattie's autograph album.  Simeon dated his page 27 December 1891.

About 1887, Flora married Arthur Douglas Wheeler, son of John and Ann Jane (Haskins) Wheeler.  Arthur Douglas Wheeler signed a page in Hattie's album at Christmas 1892.

Arthur Douglas and Flora M. (Wyman) Bergman Wheeler had two children, Maud A. Wheeler and Charles E. Wheeler.  Maud signed a page at the age of six in Hattie's album.

About 1903 Hattie married George Wickman.  They were living at Rochester, New York, at the time of the 1910 Census.  George was shown as working as a house painter, and Hattie as a worker in a grocery store, perhaps that of her stepfather.

Sadly, Hattie, according to her obituary, suffered ill health for a few years before her death from the flu in 1918.  Her husband was too ill himself to attend her funeral.

The second to last page in the album was signed in 1898 with the initials of Hattie's family: Arthur Douglas Wheeler; Flora M. Wheeler; Maud A. Wheeler; Charles E. Wheeler; and Hattie C. Bergman.

Several of Hattie's relatives signed pages in her album.

Hattie's mother's brother George Wyman and his wife Jennie [Tomar) Wheeler of West Branch, New York, signed pages in 1891.

Hattie's mother's sister Lillie Wyman of Vienna, New York, signed a page in 1894.

Hattie's stepfather Arthur Douglas Wheeler's younger sister Gladys L. Wheeler of Vienna, New York, signed a page in 1896.

Hattie's teacher Lena J. Cook of Vienna, New York, signed a page in 1895.
