1894 Graduation Photograph of Amy Gertrude Foss; Haverhill, Massachusetts High School

1894 graduation photograph of Amy Gertrude Foss, a student at Haverhill High School, Haverhill, Massachusetts.  The photograph was taken by the Wilcox studio of Haverhill, Massachusetts.

This photograph was found with those of 5 other Class of 1894 graduates of Haverhill High School.

The other students are  Bertha Maude Charlesworth; Jessie Mabel Gale; George E. Hutchins; Charles Howard Nichols or George Munroe Gage Nichols; and Lillian Mae Pettengill [spelled on graduation program as Pettingill].  Click on the name to see more information on that person.  The graduation program for the Class of 1894 appears at the end of this post.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections welcome!]

Amy Gertrude Foss was born about 1876, presumably at Haverhill, Massachusetts, the daughter of Henry G. and Frances E. (Rolfe) Foss, who were born at New Castle, New Hampshire, and Boston, Massachusetts, respectively.

Amy's paternal grandparents were William and Caroline (Amazeen) Foss of New Hampshire.  Her maternal grandparents were John and Mary Rolfe.

Amy lost her parents at a young age.  Her mother died not long after her birth, and her father died in 1881.  By the time of the 1900 Census, Amy was working as a stenographer and boarding in a Haverhill, Massachusetts household headed by Josiah Littlefield.  Her name appears in several Haverhill Town reports as being paid by the town for clerical duties.

By 1910, Amy was living at Boston, Massachusetts in the home of her aunt, Annie A. Cooley, and working as a bookkeeper in an insurance office.  By 1920 she was living alone at Boston and working as a social worker at the Child-Helping Society.

After that I lost track of her.
