1880s Autograph Album of Franklin Delos Carpenter, Jr., of Homer, New York

1880s autograph album of Franklin Delos Carpenter, "Frankie", of Homer, New York.

I assume the page above was signed by Frankie, but it could have been his father.

The album is approximately 7-3/4" x 4-3/4" and contains the sentiments of 18 of Frankie's relatives, friends and teachers.  An alphabetical list of the signers appears at the end of this post.

From online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions welcome!]

Franklin Delos Carpenter, Jr., was born 18 August 1870 in New York, the son of Franklin Delos Carpenter and Sallie Matilda (Buchanan) Carpenter.

About 1891, Frank Delos Carpenter, Jr., married Nellie J. Crampton.  I don't know if they ever had children.  There were none listed with them at the time of Census enumerations.  Nellie died in 1940 and Nellie in 1947.

Frankie's mother, Sallie Matilda (Buchanan) Carpenter signed a page at Homer, New York, on April 9, 1887.

Frankie's Auntie of 1747 Michigan Street, Buffalo, New York, signed a page on October 14, 1888.  Two other people mentioned that address: Walter R. Lovejoy and W. E. Brown.

Two people called themselves Frankie's cousin.  I. H. Rindge of Norwich [presumably New York] signed a page on July 19, 1886.

Alice C. Steele of Bridgewater, New York, signed a page on February 5, 1886.

Alice's husband Oliver Wolcott Steele and daughter Flora Electra Steele also signed pages in February 1886.

Two of Frankie's teachers signed pages.  Mrs. H. M. Sheldon signed at Homer, New York, on April 24, 1884.

Teacher C. A. Webb signed a page.  She may have been Cynthia A. Webb, wife of Dr. Sumner C. Webb.

If you have corrections and/or additions to the information above, or information on any of the signers listed below, please leave a comment or contact me directly.  Thanks!
