1912 Photograph of Porter A. Hobbs at Age 14, by a Sanford, Maine, Studio

Photograph taken at Christmas in 1912 of a 14 year old Porter Arlon Hobbs of Sanford, Maine.

From online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions welcome!]

Porter Arlon Hobbs was born 17 February 1898 at Springvale, a village in the town of Sanford, Maine, the son of Walter Waldo Hobbs and Mercy Etta (Hopper) Hobbs, who were born at Sanford, Maine, and Shapleigh, Maine, respectively.

On 9 September 1923 at Dover, New Hampshire, Porter married Sarah Mildred (Stone) Wilson, widow of Mahlon Jordan Wilson.  She was born 8 December 1893 at Lyman, Maine, the daughter of Steven Butler Stone and Ada May (Bennett) Stone.

Mildred had married Mahlon Jordan Wilson on 12 April 1913 at Sanford, Maine; he died in France on 20 August 1918, just a few months shy of the end of World War I.  Their daughter, Ada Mae Wilson, born 12 June 1912 at Sanford, Maine, would marry Thomas B. Merriam.

Porter and Mildred had, I believe, three children, but, tragically, all three died very young.  I can't imagine the despair Mildred must have felt, first at losing a husband in the war and then three young children in succession.

Porter worked as an accountant in the Sanford, Maine, area.  Mildred died in 1968, and Porter in 1976.
