1908-1911 Autograph Album of Lona M. Holman of Dixfield, Maine

1908-1911 autograph album that belonged to Lona M. Holman of Dixfield, Maine, with one earlier autograph from 1886 that was directed to Lona's mother Sarah E. (Harvey) Holman by her brother D. W. Harvey.

Many of the signers were members of the Holman families and related families such as Delano; Harvey; Marble, etc.

The album measures approximately 7" x 4-1/4" and contains the sentiments of 64 of Lona's relatives, friends, schoolmates and teachers.  An alphabetical surname list and an alphabetical list of the signers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.

Lona M. Holman was born March 10, 1896 at Dixfield, Maine, the daughter of Hiram and Sarah E. (Harvey) Holman.  The Sarah E. Holman who inscribed a page in Lona's album on October 16, 1908 was presumably her mother.

The sole sentiment in the album from an earlier era was that inscribed by D. W. Harvey of Dixfield Center, Maine, on April 25, 1886 to his sister, presumably Lona's mother Sarah E. (Harvey) Holman.  The signers was likely David W. Harvey, though Sarah also had a brother named Daniel.

Four of Lona's brothers five brothers inscribed pages in her album.  They were:

  • Fred Waite Holman, who left a sentiment on March 31, 1908
  • Delmer D. Holman
  • Jay Bennett Holman, who left a sentiment on October 16, 1908
  • Bertrand H. Holman, who left a sentiment on January 19, 1908
Several autographs were left by people at Maine General Hospital at Portland, Maine, including one that described herself as Lona's neighbor.  Apparently Lona had some accident or disease that necessitated a stay at the largest hospital in the State.

On 30 June 1923, Lona M. Holman married Cressey Hatch Macomber, son of Ferdinand D. and Cora M. (Smith) Macomber.  Cressey was born January 23, 1897.  It appears that Cressey also suffered from ill health as he was enumerated as a patient at the Augusta State Hospital in the 1930 and 1940 Censuses.  I don't know if Lona and Cressey had children or not, but I didn't find any.  Cressey died in 1891 and Lona in 1989.
