1880s Autograph Album of Evangeline Gertrude Cooper of Danielsonville, Connecticut

1880s autograph album that belonged to Evangeline Gertrude Cooper, "Eva", of Danielsonville, Connecticut, now a borough in the town of Killingly.  Eva wrote her name on the title page below.

See another post that features the autograph album of Mary F. Blanchard of Dayville, Connecticut, another village in Danielsonville, that Mary compiled while also attending Danielsonville High School.  Many of the signers in Eva's album also signed pages in Mary's album, including Eva herself.

And in turn, Mamie signed a page Eva's album.

The album is approximately 7" x 4-1/4" and contains the sentiments of about 70 of Eva's friends, including many schoolmates at Danielsonville High School.  An alphabetical list of the signers appears at the end of this post.

Evangeline Gertrude Cooper, "Eva", was born about March 1870 in Missouri, the daughter of Larkin Anndown Cooper, or Larkin Amidown Cooper, and Ellen Maria (Blackmar) Cooper, both Connecticut natives.  Judging from the album, it appears that Eva attended the high school at Danielsonville, Connecticut, probably graduating with the Class of 1886.

About 1890, Eva married Edgar Leroy Bowen, son of Vincent and Julia P. (Green) Bowen.  Edgar was born 11 May 1864 in Rhode Island.  I believe that the E. L. Bowen of Danielsonville, Connecticut, who signed a page in Eva's album in 1883 was her future husband.

Eva and Edgar had at least one child, a son Harold Vincent Bowen, born 9 November 1894 at Providence, Rhode Island.

If you have corrections and/or additions to the information above, or information on any of the signers listed below, please leave a comment or contact me directly.  Thanks!

Facing pages were signed on May 23, 1882 by Colonel Reuben Allen Steere and his wife Rebecca Ann (Myers) Steere of Providence, Rhode Island, who billed themselves in their traveling exhibitions as the smallest married couple in the world.  Their combined height was 5 and one half feet.

A few pages were signed by multiple students, presumably Eva's schoolmates; some students signed multiple pages, either on a group page or on an individual page.   Names on the group pages: Florence I. Blackmar, Eva's cousin, who signed group pages and an individual page; Mary Danielson; Ellen H. Tracy; Ida Stearns; May Walker; George B. Waldo; Sara W. Burlingame; Adabelle C. Lyon; Lillian E. Webster; May Webster;
